MONTREAL –
Jade Downie-Landry of St. Jean sur Richelieu, Que., and
Levi Londolé from LaSalle, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending on Mar. 1, 2020.
Downie-Landry, a 5-foot-8 all-star forward with the Martlets hockey team, scored four goals in two games as McGill swept the Montreal Carabins to capture the RSEQ championship with back-to-back victories last week. The 23-year-old psychology senior registered a natural hat-trick, including the winning goal in the series opening 4-2 win at McConnell Arena last Thursday (Feb. 27), then added the final marker in a 4-1 victory in the series clinching game at Arena CEPSUM on Saturday (Feb. 29). Downie-Landry, a CEGEP product from Dawson College, was the league’s top playoff scorer with eight points, including six goals, in four games.
Londolé, 6-foot-8 forward on the men's basketball team, scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds in a losing cause as McGill suffered a 70-61 loss to UQAM in an RSEQ conference semifinal on Feb. 26. The 25-year-old physical education junior shot 4-for-8 from the field and 8-for-12 from the free-throw line. He also contributed one blocked shot and a steal in 39 minutes on the court. Londolé was voted as a second-team all-star and the league's most outstanding defensive player. He transferred to McGill in 2017, after playing at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. Prior to that, he played CEGEP ball at Thetford Academy.
