MONTREAL– Swimmers Clement Secchi, from Aix-en-Provence in France, and Sarah Knott of Sherwood Park, Alta., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 18, 2018.

Secchi, an 18-year-old management freshman, won five gold medals while leading McGill to a meet title at the Kemp-Fry Invitational in Halifax, over the weekend. The 5-foot-10, 140-pound sprinter finished atop the podium in the 50-metre backstroke (0:25.21) and the 200 back (2:00.50), posting qualifying times in each. He also helped guide three winning relays, the 4x200 free (7:30.99), the 4x100 free (3:22.97) and the 4x100 medley (3:42.96), the latter two which both met the USPORTS qualifying standard.

Knott, an 18-year-old arts freshman who stands 5-foot-7, swept all three breaststrokes, qualifying for Nationals in each and breaking two long-standing school records. She completed the 50 breast in 32.82 seconds, the 100 breast in 1:10.65 and the 200 breast in 2:32.33. Her prelim time of 1:09.97 in the 100 erased a 13-year-old mark set by Heather Bell (1:10.02) in 2005. Her time in the 200 surpassed a six-year-old standard set by Valerie De Broux, who clocked 2:33.25 in 2012.
