MONTREAL –
Alexandre Laurendeau of Ormstown, Que., and
Audrey Trottier of Longueuil, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 6, 2022.
Laurendeau, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound winger with the Redbirds rugby team, scored a pair of tries, including the game-winning major as McGill defeated Ottawa 31-24 to capture the RSEQ championship before a record crowd of 1,830 at Percival Molson Stadium, last Friday. The 21-year-old industrial relations freshman scored both of his tries in the second half on explosive, lengthy runs. His first was a 42-yard sprint, with McGill shorthanded one player, to put the Redbirds ahead 18-10 in the 47

Trottier, a 5-foot-9 setter with the volleyball Martlets, racked up 72 assists in seven sets overall as No.5 ranked McGill split a pair of games over the weekend, losing 3-1 at UQAM on Nov. 4 and winning 3-0 over UQTR on Nov. 6. The 23-year-old senior added 12 digs on defence, along with one kill and three assisted stuff blocks. She now ranks second in the RSEQ conference and third in the nation with an average of 10.22 assists per set. Trottier is a master’s student in physical therapy after graduating last spring with an education degree in kinesiology. She was recruited to McGill in 2019 out of College Lionel-Groulx
