MONTREAL -- Michael O’Toole of Vancouver, B.C., and Victoria Sturgess of Quakertown, Penn., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 9, 2018.
O’Toole, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound infielder with the baseball Redmen, registered a .526 on-base percentage and collected a team-leading eight runs batted in over six games, helping lead McGill to a 4-2 record. The 19-year-old arts freshman batted .468 with a 7-for-16 performance at the plate, walking three times and scoring four runs. A product of Surrey Senior secondary school, he played for the Langley Blaze last season.
Sturgess, a 19-year-old bioengineering sophomore with the soccer Martlets, netted the winning tally as McGill came away with a 2-1 road victory over UQAM Citadins at Stade Saputo last Friday. Her goal made it 2-0 in the 35th minute of play. A 5-foot-10 striker who only tallied once in 13 contests as a freshman, Sturgess now has three markers this season and ranks third among RSEQ goal scorers. She enrolled at McGill last fall out of Quakertown Community Senior high school.
