MONTREAL - Samy Rassy of Montreal and Brianna Miller of Pte. Claire, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub & Grill, for the period ending Sept. 2, 2012.
Rassy, a six-foot, 190-pound place-kicker with the Redmen football team, accounted for all of McGill's scoring in a 33-15 road loss against No.2-ranked Laval on Sunday. The 22-year-old civil engineering junior made his CIS debut with a 5-for-5 performance in field-goal attempts. It marked the eighth time in McGill history that a Redmen player had made five in a game and he was one shy of the single-game school record held by Glenn Miller since 1984. Rassy staked the Redmen to a 9-0 lead on field-goals from 42, 18 and 26 yards in the opening quarter. He added a 28-yarder in the third stanza and a 37-yard effort in the final quarter. He is a product of Collège Andre-Grasset.
Miller, a 5-foot-5 fly-half on the women's rugby squad, racked up a game-high 19 points as the Martlets pummeled visiting Guelph, the defending national champions, 89-0 in exhibition play, Sunday. The 21-year-old physical and health education junior racked up eight conversions and a penalty goal. Before enrolling at McGill in 2010, she played for John Abbott College.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
