MONTREAL --
Alex Paquin of Montreal, and
Marika Labrecque of Lac Etchemin, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Feb. 18, 2018.
Paquin, a six-foot, 190-pound point-guard, accounted for 30.1 per cent of McGill's offence with a team-high 28 points as no.6 ranked McGill defeated visiting Bishop's 93-71 in RSEQ men's basketball last Saturday. A 23-year-old applied finance major, he shot 10-for-16 from the field, including a 6-for-11 performance from three-point range, and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. The first-year NCAA transfer, who played three seasons with American University in Washington, was also credited with two rebounds, five steals and a pair of assists in just 22 minutes of court time.
Labrecque, a 19-year-old elementary education freshman with the Martlets hockey team, scored two goals, including the game-winner as McGill skated to a 3-2 victory over visiting Carleton last Sunday. The 5-foot-5 forward gave McGill a 2-1 lead just 42 seconds into the second period, then she snapped a 2-2 deadlock to seal the victory with a power-play marker at 5:41 of the third period.
McGill athletes of the week receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
