MONTREAL --
Myriam Robitaille of Terrebonne, Que., and
Christophe Lalonde from Mirabel, Que., and are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Jan. 28, 2018.
Robitaille, a six-foot middle blocker with the volleyball Martlets, scored a team-leading 32.5 points in a pair of games last week as McGill bounced back from a 3-2 loss at UQAM last Thursday with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over visiting Ottawa on Sunday. The 22-year old languages senior registered 22 kills, three service aces, four stuff blocks and seven assisted blocks. She added seven digs and a pair of assists. Her 20-point performance against the Gee-Gees helped McGill rally from a 0-2 deficit, which also resulted in McGill bench boss Rachele Beliveau becoming the third volleyball coach in Canada and the first from a Quebec university to reach the 600-victory plateau with one school.
Lalonde, a 5-foot-9, 188-pound forward with the first-place hockey Redmen, earned points on 50 per cent of McGill's goals scored in a huge 6-1 victory over third-place Carleton last Saturday. The 24-year-old arts junior scored twice and added an assist. He now leads the Redmen in goals with a career-high 13 and ranks second in points with 21, which matches his single-season best, accomplished last year.
