Alex Kiss-Rusk of Beaconsfield, Que., and
Dele Ogundokun from Hamilton, Ont., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Jan. 7, 2017.
Kiss-Rusk, a 6-foot-4 centre with the women's basketball team, registered back-to-back "double-doubles" with 25 points and 22 rebounds as the No.2 ranked Martlets swept a pair of games from UQAM, winning 65-56 on the road last Thursday and 61-52 at home on Saturday. The 23-year-old social work senior shot a stellar 50 per cent from the floor (11-for-22), drained three of five free-throws and added five blocks, a pair of steals along with two assists. She accounted for 20 per cent of the team's 126 points scored and 33 per cent of their 66 rebounds. The daughter of former McGill all-star basketball players Rick Rusk and Annette Kiss, she is currently ranked third among league leaders in points (15.7) and second in rebounds (10.8) per game. She also leads the league in double-doubles with four in six games.
Ogundokun, a 6-foot-3, 226-pound guard with the men's basketball Redmen, scored 34 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Redmen swept back-to-back games against UQAM winning 95-47 on the road last Thursday and 105-59 at home on Saturday. The 23-year-old management senior shot an impressive 50 per cent from the floor (13-for-26), drained six of seven free-throws and added three steals along with four assists and a pair of blocked shots. He is currently ranked fifth among league leaders in points (13.7) and seventh in rebounds (5.5) per game.
