MONTREAL – Basketball players
Alex Kiss-Rusk of Beaconsfield, Que., and
Michael Peterkin of Toronto, are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Feb. 5, 2017.
Kiss-Russ, a 6-foot-4 centre with the Martlets, scored 40 points and pulled down 19 rebounds as McGill swept a pair of games over Bishop’s, winning 75-73 at home on Feb. 2 and 68-59 in Lennoxville two days later. The 22-year-old psychology junior added six blocked shots, eight assists and three steals. She shot 42.5 per cent from the floor (17/40) and sank six of her 10 free-throws.
Peterkin, a 21-year-old economics senior with the Redmen, scored a combined 27 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as McGill swept a pair of games over Bishop’s, winning 79-62 at home on Feb. 2 and 87-59 on the road two days later. The 6-foot-6, 200-pound small forward averaged 26 minutes of playing time and added four assists, one blocked shot and a pair of steals. He shot 57.1 per cent from the floor (10/13), made one of four three-pointers and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line.
