MONTREAL –
Kendrick Jolin of Pointe Claire, Que., and
Vanisa Ezukuse from Mississauga, Ont., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 27, 2016.
Jolin, a 6-foot-2, 192-pound point-guard with the basketball Redmen, scored 47 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a pair of victories over Concordia (96-56) and Bishop’s (81-73) last week. The 19-year-old arts freshman shot a stellar 70 per cent from the field (14/20), an equally impressive 69.2 from three-point range (9/13) and sank a solid 71.4 from the free-throw line (10/14). He was also credited with eight steals to go along with eight assists and one blocked shot. Jolin is a product of John Rennie high school in Pte. Claire and Salisbury School in Connecticut.
Ezukuse, a 5-foot-10 throws specialist with the women’s track and field team, destroyed a McGill record in the season-opening Martlet Open meet at Tomlinson Fieldhouse, Saturday. The 21-year-old science senior, who majors in nursing, tossed a distance of 15.19 metres in the weight throw, easily surpassing the five-year-old school best of 14.65 set by
Stephanie Harris on Feb. 27, 2011 at the same venue. Ezukuse joined the McGill program in 2013 out of St. Marcellinus secondary school in Mississauga.
