Claire Vercheval of Ste. Julie, Que., and
Samuel Wang of Sherbrooke, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 13, 2016.

Vercheval, a 6-foot-2 power-hitter with the volleyball Martlets, scored 27 points in a pair of games last weekend, a 3-1 home loss to Ottawa (Nov. 11) and a key 3-1 road victory at Laval (Nov. 12). The 21-year-old physical and health education freshman registered 26 kills with a pair of aces, four stuff blocks, 15 digs and one assist. A product of Collège Edouard-Montpetit, she enrolled at McGill this season.
Wang, a 20-year-old biochemistry freshman with the Redmen swim team, broke a school record and reached the CIS qualifying standard in three different events, leading McGill to finish second of five teams at the third Quebec Cup meet of the season, held at the Université de Montréal last weekend. The 5-foot-9, 152-pound sprinter posted three silver-medal finishes with personal best times in all three races. He was clocked at 24.40 seconds in the men's 50-metre butterfly breaking the McGill record of 24.65 set by
Marc-Andre Benoit in 2012. Wang also finished second in the 50 and 100 backstrokes, with times of 25.97 and 56.10, respectively. He joined McGill this fall out of Collège
de Sherbrooke
