MONTREAL – David Rose of St. Hubert, Que., and Emilie Matte de Grasse of Montreal are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Feb. 21, 2016.

Rose, a 5-foot-8, 212-pound forward with the hockey Redmen, scored five points, including a pair of goals in two playoff games as sixth-ranked McGill swept Concordia 9-2 and 4-3 in overtime to sweep the OUA East best-of-three series last week.  The24-year-old economics senior returned to the line-up after missing the last six regular season games to injury and set up two goals in the playoff opener at home last Wednesday. He then scored twice and assisted on the overtime winner in the 4-3 series-clinching victory at Concordia on Friday. Prior to attending McGill in 2010, Rose graduated from College Edouard-Montpetit while playing in the QMJHL with Baie Comeau and Cape Breton and the Montreal Rocket.

Matte de Grasse, a 5-foot-10 power-hitter with the volleyball Martlets, registered 35.5 points on offence and 38 digs on defence in 11 sets as No.9-ranked McGill defeated No. 10 Sherbrooke in three games to win an RSEQ best-of-three semifinal series last weekend and qualify for the RSEQ conference final, in addition to a berth at the CIS championships in Brandon, Man. After being swept 3-0 at home on Friday, the Martlets bounced back with a hard-fought 3-2 road victory in Sherbrooke on Saturday, followed by a 3-0 sweep back home on Sunday. The 20-year-old physical education sophomore also collected 29 kills, four aces, 2.5 stuff blocks and one assist. A product of College Edouard-Montpetit, she joined the Martlets in 2014.
