MONTREAL – Hockey players
Dominic Talbot-Tassi of Mascouche, Que., and
Melodie Daoust from Valleyfield, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Jan. 10, 2015.
Talbot-Tassi, a 21-year-old civil engineering freshman with the Redmen, scored six points in two road victories as the No.2-ranked Redmen defeated Laurentian and Nipissing last Friday and Saturday, respectively. The 5-foot-8, 181-pound defenceman collected three assists in a 4-3 double overtime win at Laurentian. On the winning tally, he went coast-to-coast and passed to Daniel Milne, who buried the puck. The next night, he scored the first goal and added a pair of helpers on the last two goals in a 5-1 victory at Nipissing. Talbot-Tassi is having a stellar rookie campaign and is currently tied for second in the CIS national scoring race with 32 points and 10 goals in 20 games.
Daoust, a 5-foot-6 centre with the Martlets, captained Canada to gold at the Nations Cup tournament in Fussen, Germany, then six hours after landing back in Montreal, she stepped on the ice and scored once and added three helpers as No.2-ranked McGill skated to a 5-2 victory over visiting Concordia last Friday. The 23-year-old physical education senior was held off the scoresheet in a 2-1 shootout loss to Montreal on Sunday. Daoust, the team captain, now leads the RSEQ conference scoring race with 18 points, including six goals in 11 games. She is ranked sixth in the CIS national scoring race but is first in points per game, averaging 1.64. A product of College Edouard-Montpetit, Daoust helped Canada win gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
