MONTREAL – Javier Montalvo of Closter, N.J., and Katia Clement-Heydra from St. Bruno de Montarville, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Mar. 1, 2015.

Montalvo, a six-foot, 160-pound middle distance runner on the track and field team, won three gold medals and merited all-star status at the RSEQ conference championships, a two-day meet held in Sherbrooke, last weekend. The 20-year-old political science junior finished first in the 300m, crossing the line in 35.76 seconds. He also helped McGill sweep both the 4x200m and 4x400m relays, in 1:30.57 and 3:20.25, respectively. He enrolled at McGill in 2012 after graduating from Northern Valley Regional high school in New Jersey.

Clement-Heydra, a 5-foot-7 centre and team captain with the hockey Martlets, scored five goals in two playoff games, netting both game-winners as McGill swept Ottawa in an RSEQ conference semifinal series last week. The 25-year-old industrial relations major established a McGill single-game playoff record with four goals, including a shorthanded effort, in a 7-3 win over the Gee-Gees on Feb. 26. She added another marker in a 4-0 shutout at Ottawa on Feb. 28.  Clement-Heydra is currently ranked third on the team in scoring with 48 points, including 17 goals in 34 games overall and ranks third among the team's all-time leading scorers with a record of 120-175-295 in 200 career games. Before joining the Martlets in 2010, she played for College Edouard-Montpetit.

Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
