MONTREAL – Swimmers
Hocine Feddag of St. Hubert, Que., and
Emilia Mastromatteo of Kenora, Ont., are the McGill University athletes of the week, presented by Restaurant Poulet Rouge, for the period ending Oct. 27, 2024.
Feddag, a 20-year-old mechanical engineering freshman, was named swimmer of the meet after guiding McGill to finish first of six teams in the men's division at the second
RSEQ University Cup competition, held in
Sherbrooke last Saturday. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound sprinter won four gold medals, reaching the U SPORTS qualifying standards in each event. He won the 50-metre freestyle (22.42) and 200m free (1:49.34), in addition to swimming the anchor legs of both, the 4x100 free relay (3:22.38) and the 4x100 medley relay (3:41.96). Feddag is a product of
Collège André-Grasset.
Mastromatteo, a 20-year-old science junior majoring in anatomy and cell biology, was also named swimmer of the meet after leading McGill to a first-place finish of six teams in the women's division at the same meet in Sherbrooke. The 5-foot-6 sprinter won three gold medals and a silver, while reaching the U SPORTS qualifying standards in each event. She set a school record in the 100-metre butterfly (1:01.30) in addition to winning the 100m breaststroke (1:10.25) and the 50m breast (31.61). Her second-place finish was in the 4x100 medley relay (4:15.30), where she swam the third leg. Mastromatteo attended St. Thomas Aquinas School prior to enrolling at McGill in 2002.
McGill athlete of the week award recipients receive a gift certificate from Poulet Rouge, serving healthy and nutritious meals since 2017. All students can get a 15% discount at the Poulet Rouge McGill location upon presentation of their student ID card.
