MONTREAL – Hockey player Zach Gallant of Oakville, Ont., and volleyball's Victoria Iannotti of St. Laurent, Que., and are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 4, 2024.

Gallant, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound centre who was Detroit's third-round selection (83rd overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, scored five points, including three goals, in two games last week. His efforts helped he No.6-ranked McGill Redbirds extend their win streak to six with a 5-4 overtime victory at Concordia (Jan. 31) and a 6-2 conquest over visiting Carleton (Feb. 3). The 24-year-old management junior scored once against the Stingers and was involved in four of McGill's six goals against the Ravens, posting a 2-2-4 performance as the Redbirds erased an early 2-1 deficit with five unanswered goals. Gallant enrolled at McGill in 2021 while playing in the AHL with San Jose. He conducted online studies during his freshman year, then began in-course instruction while sitting out his sophomore campaign to regain his collegiate eligibility in 2022-23. Now in his first year of play with the Redbirds, he is currently tied for 14th in the OUA scoring race with 29 points, including a dozen goals, in 25 games. Gallant previously played five seasons of junior hockey with the OHL's Peterborough Petes from 2015 to 2020.

Iannotti, a 5-foot-9 power-hitter, scored 28.5 points over six sets as the No.10-ranked McGill Martlets extended their win streak to four with a 3-0 victory over UQTR at home on Friday (Feb. 2), followed by a huge 3-0 win at UQAM on Sunday (Feb. 4). The results put McGill in a three-way tie for first place with a 13-5 record in the eight-team RSEQ conference. Iannotti, a 24-year-old software engineering senior, registered her points on the strength of 23 kills, four service aces and three assisted stuff blocks. On defence, she contributed 14 digs and one assist. A co-captain with the Martlets, Iannotti played her CEGEP volleyball at College Bois-de-Boulogne before joining the university ranks in 2019.
