MONTREAL –
William Rouleau of St. Basile de Portneuf, Que., and
Donna Ntambue of Montreal, are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending on Jan. 28, 2024.
Rouleau, a six-foot, 166-pound centre, scored six points, including four goals, in two road victories during a trip to southern Ontario last weekend. They helped the No.7 ranked McGill men's hockey team maintain its hold of first-place in the OUA East Division with an 18-5-2 record. The 23-year-old management sophomore potted four points, with a hat-trick and the winning goal in a 7-1 decision at York on Friday. The next afternoon, Rouleau scored once and assisted on the game-winning tally in overtime to give McGill a 4-3 victory over Ontario Tech in Oshawa. Rouleau sits fifth in the OUA scoring race with 34 points, including a dozen goals, in 25 games. He enrolled at McGill last season after playing for Chicoutimi in what was then known as the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Ntambue, a 5-foot-9 sprinter on the track and field team, posted a pair of silver medal performances and set a school record as the Martlets finished fourth of 17 schools at the McGill Team Challenge, a two-day indoor meet held at Tomlinson Fieldhouse. The 22-year-old economics sophomore broke her own school record in the 60-metre sprint with a silver medal time of 7.32 seconds. It was the second fastest time in the country this season and just .03 seconds behind the national leader. Ntambue's performance erased the previous McGill record of 7.38 set at the same meet last season. She also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x200m relay, which finished second in 1:42.13. And she posted a fourth-place result in the 300m race which was clocked in 40.05 seconds, just missing the school record of 39.48.
