MONTREAL – Haris Elezovic from Sherbrooke, Que., and Victoria Iannotti of St. Laurent, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 12, 2023.

Elezovic, a 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward on the men’s basketball team, registered two consecutive double-doubles in a pair of must-win victories over Concordia, a 77-66 decision at home (Feb. 9) and a 78-68 conquest on the road (Feb. 11). With two games left to play, the results moved McGill into a tie with Concordia for the final playoff spot in the RSEQ conference. Elezovic, a 22-year-old management junior, scored 40 points with 33 rebounds and seven assists, while averaging 35 minutes of playing time over the two contests. He registered a spectacular 58.6 per cent success rate in field-goal shooting (17/29) and a solid 75 per cent from the free-throw line (6/8). His 22 rebounds in the first game was the highest single-game total listed in the RSEQ records and the second-highest regular-season total in McGill history. A product of Vanier College, Elezovic was recruited to McGill in 2020.

Iannotti, a 5-foot-9 power-hitter on the women’s volleyball squad, scored 42 points points as the Martlets split their two games over the weekend, defeating Laval 3-1 in Quebec City (Feb. 10) and losing 2-1 at home to Sherbrooke (Feb. 12. The results left McGill in second place with an 11-6 record and just one game remaining before playoffs. Iannotti, a 23-year-old software engineering senior, registered her points on the strength of 36 kills, one service ace, three stuff blocks and four assisted blocks over eight sets. On defence, she contributed 14 digs and three assists. A co-captain with the Martlets, Iannotti played her CEGEP volleyball at College Bois-de-Boulogne before joining the university ranks in 2019.
