MONTREAL – Mariam Sylla of Conakry, Guinea, and Emeric Durand de Bousingen, a native of Paris, France, are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Nov. 16, 2014.

Sylla, a 6-foot-1 forward with the No.4-ranked basketball Martlets, registered a "double-double" with a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds as McGill earned a hard-fought 60-48 road win at UQAM last Thursday. The 22-year-old pharmacology junior was honoured by Governor General David Johnston on Nov. 17 as a CIS Top 8 Academic All-Canadian. In the win over UQAM, she shot an impressive 72.7 per cent from the floor (8/11) and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul-line. The pharmacology junior also added a steal and one assist in addition to grabbing eight of her 13 rebounds under the offensive boards. Prior to enrolling at McGill, Sylla starred in the Quebec CEGEP league for College Montmorency.

Durand de Bousingen, a 5-foot-11, 176-pound centre on the rugby Redmen, scored eight points in a 21-17 road victory at Bishop's, an RSEQ sudden-death semifinal last Saturday. The 21-year-old management junior made two penalty kicks in the first half and converted a try just three minutes into the second stanza, which gave McGill a 21-3 lead. It put the Redmen in position to have a shot at winning their ninth consecutive RSEQ conference championship when they play at Concordia on Nov. 23. He enrolled at McGill in 2011 out of Lycée des Francs-Bourgeois in France.

Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
