MONTREAL – Swimmers
Isabel Sarty of Halifax, N.S., and
Pablo Collin from Marseille, France, are the McGill University athletes of the meet, for the period ending Feb. 5, 2023.
Sarty, a 23-year-old master's student in neuroscience, won six gold medals and was named both swimmer of the meet and RSEQ swimmer of the year after leading McGill to the women’s conference championship, a three-day competition in Trois-Rivieres, Que., that concluded on Sunday. The 5-foot-7 freestyle specialist scored a meet-high 75 points for the team over her six events and registered the best swim with 758 points on the FINA scale in the 100 free. She won three individual gold medals: 50 free (0:25.26), 100 free (0:55.10) and 200 free (2:02.73), in addition to three relay golds: 4x50 free, (1:43.46), 4x100 free (3:46.69) and the 4x100 medley (4:09.18).
Collin, a 21-year-old computer science sophomore, won four gold medals along with a pair of silvers and was named both swimmer of the meet and RSEQ swimmer of the year after leading McGill to the men’s conference championship over the weekend. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound freestyle specialist scored a meet-high 84 points for the team over his six events and registered the meet's best swim with 790 points on the FINA scale in the 400 free. He won the 200 free (1:48.23), 400 free (3:49.53) and led two relay squads to victory, winning the 4x100 free (3:21.25) and the 4x200 free (7:27.31). His silver medals came in the 100 free (0:50.49) and the 1500 free (15:48.91).
