Caroline Suchorski of Kirkland, Que, and
Alexander King of Cambridge, in England, are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Oct. 5, 2014.
Suchorski, a 5-foot-8 centre on the women’s rugby team, scored 18 points, including the game-winning penalty kick with four minutes remaining as McGill came from behind to edge out their crosstown rival Montreal Carabins 23-21 last Saturday, virtually clinching a playoff berth for the Martlets. A 22-year-old science senior, majoring in dietetics, she tallied one try, a pair of conversions and added three penalty kicks. The offensive outburst moved her into the league scoring lead with 78 points in six games. Suchorski is a product of John Abbott College.
King, a 5-foot-11, 164-pound striker with the soccer Redmen, scored all three McGill goals in two games last week. A 22-year-old international development studies senior, King tallied twice in a 2-1 road victory at Sherbrooke on Sunday, which clinched a playoff berth for the team. The fifth-year veteran also scored McGill’s lone marker in a 2-1 loss at Laval last Friday. He ranks second among RSEQ goal leaders with seven in nine contests. He enrolled at McGill out of Cranbrook Kingswood School in 2010.
Both athletes will recive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
