MONTREAL –
Leslie Oles of Beaconsfield, Que., and
Clovis Fowo of Paris, France, are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Sept. 21, 2014.
Oles, a speedy, 5-foot-3 forward with the hockey Martlets, scored eight points, including four goals, in three games at the Queen's Invitational tournament in Kingston, Ont., Sept. 19-21. The 23-year-old physical education senior was in on every scoring play during McGill's 7-6 post-overtime shootout win over the Laurier Golden Hawks, Sunday, scoring three goals and three assists, in addition to the only goal of the shootout. Oles also tallied the tying marker in a 3-2 overtime victory against the Montreal Carabins on Friday and collected an assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to Queen's, Saturday. Prior to enrolling at McGill, she attended Kuper Academy.
Fowo, a 6-foot-2, 174-pound midfielder with the soccer Redmen, scored both goals in McGill's 2-1 upset over the No.7-ranked Montreal Carabins, Sunday. It was Montreal's first loss of the season and snapped McGill's 0-5-2 winless streak against the Carabins, It also marked McGill's first ever regular-season victory in 14 lifetime attempts on Carabins territory. Fowo, a 19-year-old mechanical engineering sophomore, was making his first start of the season and did not even dress the previous night in a 4-2 loss at Laval. Prior to enrolling at McGill in 2013, he attended Lycee Charlemagne in France.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
