MONTREAL --
Katia Clement-Heydra of St. Bruno de Montarville, Que., and
Francois Bourque of Terrebonne, Que, are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Jan. 5, 2013.
Clement-Heydra, a 5-foot-7 forward with the women's hockey team, scored nine points, including four goals in four games, three of them victories for the Martlets. She helped McGill sweep their own Holiday Classic tournament, Dec. 27-29, with wins over Moncton (9-0), Western (3-0) and Regina (2-1). The 24-year-old industrial relations senior also had a very productive performance helping Canada win gold at the FISU World University Games in Italy prior to the Christmas break. She scored five goals and 18 points in just seven games, all victories for Canada. Before joining the Martlets in 2010, she played for College Edouard-Montpetit.
Bourque, a 6-foot-5 rookie forward with the men’s basketball team, tallied 19 points and eight rebounds in two road games against U.S. teams at the ASA Holiday Classic tournament in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he led McGill to a 1-1 record. McGill defeated Howard Community College 87-72 on Dec. 29 before losing 80-52 against ASA College, Dec. 30. Over the two contests, Bourque, a 20-year-old economics freshman shot a stellar 80 per cent from the field, making eight of 10 attempts and went 3-for-7 from the foul line. He also had three assists and one steal. He joined the Redmen this fall after graduating from College Montmorency.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
