MONTREAL --
Samuel Carrier of Varennes, Que., and
Caroline Tanguay of St. Hubert, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week, sponsored by Ye Olde Orchard Pub, for the period ending Dec. 1, 2013.
Carrier, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound rookie defenceman with the men’s hockey team, scored eight points, including three goals, in two victories last week. The 21-year-old elementary education freshman scored twice, including the game-winner, and added two assists in a 4-1 victory over the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs, Saturday. Earlier in the week, he scored once and added a helper as McGill rallied from a three-goal deficit to defeat Concordia 9-3 on Tuesday.
Tanguay, a 5-foot-8 jumps specialist with the women’s track and field team, won one gold medal and added a silver at the season-opening Martlet Open meet, held at McGill's Tomlinson Fieldhouse, Saturday. The 20-year-old physical therapy sophomore finished first in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.65 metres. She was second in the pole vault with a leap of 3.45m.
Both athletes will receive a gift certificate from Ye Olde Orchard Pub.
