MONTREAL –
Jerry Momo of Val-des-Monts, Que., and
Zahra Metivier of Toronto, are the McGill University athletes of the week, presented by Poulet Rouge, for the period ending Sept. 27, 2026.
Momo, a six-foot, 212-pound running back from Val-des-Monts, Que., rushed 15 times for 218 yards and two long touchdowns as the visiting McGill football team defeated Sherbrooke 34-1, last Saturday. It was only McGill's fourth lifetime victory on the grass field at Sherbrooke. Momo's performance was the highest single-game rushing total by a McGill player since 2009. Momo, a 21-year-old physical and health education sophomore, broke loose for touchdown runs of 75 and 77 yards before being rested for the final quarter. He currently leads the nation in rushing with 655 yards and is also third among national leaders with six touchdowns in four games, one shy of the U SPORTS lead. Momo was recruited from Champlain College (Lennoxville) in 2024.
Metivier scored both goals as the Martlets soccer team edged visiting Concordia 2-1 in RSEQ action last Friday at Percival Molson Stadium. The 24-year-old forward transferred to McGill this season to pursue a master's degree in educational leadership after playing four years at Bishop's. She now has a league-leading four goals through seven games. With the Gaiters, she tallied two career goals in 44 regular season contests. Prior to joining the university ranks, she attended Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School.
McGill athlete of the week award recipients receive a gift certificate from Poulet Rouge, which has been serving healthy meals since 2017. Students also receive a 15 per cent discount at the Poulet Rouge McGill location upon presentation of a valid student ID.
