McGill student earns bronze at FISU World University Championships in Brazil

Andrew Compton said years of structured training have strengthened the habits that help him succeed both in the classroom and in competition

For Andrew Compton, standing on the podium with a bronze medal around his neck at the 2026 FISU World University Championship Combat Sports was a reward for years of dedication to a sport that has shaped nearly every aspect of his life.

The McGill University Arts student captured bronze in the men's gunshu event in Brasília, Brazil, representing both Canada and McGill in the martial art of wushu against many of the world's top university athletes. Gunshu is an event in which athletes perform a choreographed routine using a traditional staff weapon.

Un étudiant de McGill remporte le bronze au Championnat du monde universitaire FISU

Médaille au cou sur le podium du Championnat du monde universitaire FISU de sports de combat 2026, à Brasilia, au Brésil, Andrew Compton savoure la récompense d'années consacrées à un sport qui a façonné presque tous les aspects de sa vie.

Étudiant de la Faculté des arts de l'Université McGill, Andrew a décroché le bronze à l'épreuve masculine de gun shu, où il défendait le Canada et l'Université McGill face à plusieurs des meilleurs athlètes universitaires du monde en wushu. Le gun shu est une épreuve au cours de laquelle les athlètes exécutent des enchaînements chorégraphiés avec un bâton de combat traditionnel
