(VERSION FRANÇAISE SUIT)

OTTAWA
—
Torsten Blodgett and Zack Pagé each scored three goals as the McGill Redbirds captured the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association East Division pennant with a decisive 15-8 road victory over Ottawa at Gee-Gees Field, Sunday.

The result capped a 9-1 regular season for McGill under first-year head coach Andrew Meakes, while Ottawa, which needed a victory to have any chance of overtaking the Redbirds, finished second with a 7-3 record.

It marked McGill's third consecutive CUFLA East Division pennant.

The Redbirds took command with a seven-goal outburst in the second quarter, turning a 1-1 opening-quarter deadlock into an 8-3 halftime advantage. McGill maintained its five-goal cushion through three quarters before outscoring the hosts 4-2 in the final stanza.

Jason Bonnema led McGill with four points on two goals and two assists, while Blodgett and Pagé provided the offensive firepower with their hat-tricks.

Liam Miletich collected three points on a goal and two assists. Massimo Thauvette, Callum Olson and John Miraglia each registered a goal and an assist, while Bryce Hogan, Jack Faller and Cam Prior supplied the other Redbirds markers.

Luke Nickel, McGill's faceoff specialist, contributed an assist.

Julien Belair and Hunter Lubiniecki scored three goals apiece for Ottawa, while Elliot Malcolm and Jack McCaig added singles.

The teams were even at 17 shots apiece, although McGill held an 11-7 advantage in the opening half.

Brennan Visokey went the distance in the McGill net and was credited with the victory, allowing eight goals over 60 minutes. Finn Harapiak played the entire game for Ottawa and was charged with the loss.

The Redbirds were assessed six penalties, compared with four for the Gee-Gees.

McGill will now host fifth-place Bishop's (2-8) in a sudden-death CUFLA playoff qualifying game on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Percival Molson Stadium.

The winner will advance to the Baggataway Cup championship with a first-round bye. The three-day national tournament is scheduled for Nov. 12-14 in the nation's capital.

Ottawa has already qualified for the championship as the host team but will not receive a first-round bye. The Gee-Gees would have to win three games in three days to capture their first national title.
