MONTREAL – Former McGill Redbirds power forward Georges Lefebvre is headed overseas to begin his professional basketball career after signing a contract with Galitos Aveiro of Portugal's Proliga. He is the 20th McGillian to go onto a playing career in pro hoops.
The 23-year-old Montreal native, who measures 6-foot-8 and 214 pounds, played his final season of university eligibility with McGill in 2024-25. In 28 games overall, he averaged an team-leading 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds while logging 30.7 minutes per outing. Lefebvre was a second-team all-star in the RSEQ conference last season, collecting team MVP honours. In regular season play, he finished ninth among Quebec league scoring leaders (11.5 ppg) and was fifth in rebounding (7.0 rpg) over 16 contests.
Before transferring to McGill, Lefebvre spent two seasons at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C. (2022-24), and two years with the University of Vermont (2020-22). Prior to beginning his university career, he was a standout at Cape Fear Academy in Wilmington, N.C.
Founded in 1904, Galitos Aveiro is one of Portugal's oldest basketball clubs. The team's creation came three years after McGill formed its first varsity basketball squad in 1901.

MONTRÉAL – L'ancien ailier fort des Redbirds de McGill,
Georges Lefebvre, s'envole pour l'Europe afin d'entamer sa carrière professionnelle dans le basket-ball après avoir signé un contrat avec le club portugais Galitos Aveiro, qui évolue en Proliga. Il est le 20e joueur de McGill à se lancer dans une carrière professionnelle dans le basket-ball.
Ce joueur de 23 ans, originaire de Montréal, mesure 2,03 m et pèse 97 kg. Il a disputé sa dernière saison universitaire avec McGill en 2024-2025. En 28 matchs au total, il a affiché une moyenne de 12,5 points et 8,0 rebonds, la meilleure de son équipe, tout en enregistrant 30,7 minutes par match. Lefebvre a été nommé dans la deuxième équipe d'étoiles de la conférence RSEQ la saison dernière, remportant le titre de joueur le plus utile de son équipe. Au cours de la saison régulière, il a terminé neuvième parmi les meilleurs marqueurs de la ligue québécoise (11,5 points par match) et cinquième au chapitre des rebonds (7,0 par match) en 16 rencontres.
Avant de rejoindre McGill, Lefebvre a passé deux saisons à l'université Simon Fraser à Burnaby, en Colombie-Britannique (2022-2024), et deux ans à l'université du Vermont (2020-2022). Avant de commencer sa carrière universitaire, il s'est illustré à la Cape Fear Academy de Wilmington, en Caroline du Nord.
Fondé en 1904, Galitos Aveiro est l'un des plus anciens clubs de basket-ball du Portugal. La création de l'équipe est intervenue trois ans après la formation de la première équipe universitaire de basket-ball de McGill en 1901.
