MONTREAL — Saransh Padhy registered a double-double but it wasn't enough to prevent McGill from falling 82–66 to UQAM in RSEQ men's university basketball, Saturday, at the Centre Sportif UQAM.

The Citadins improved to 5–3, while the Redbirds slipped to 1–7 in their final regular-season contest before the fall exam break.

After limiting UQAM to just 28 points over the entire first half, McGill held a 31-28 lead at the intermission. But the game turned sharply after the break and the Citadins exploded for 29 in the third quarter and 25 more in the final stanza.

Padhy paced the Redbirds with 27 points and 12 rebounds on an efficient 11-for-13 shooting night. It was the highest single-game tally for a member of the Redbirds since Joshua Soifer potted 29 against UQAM on Nov. 2, 2023.

Teammate Luis Micourt added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Isaac Moore chipped in 10. Sean Duff and Noah Sincere scored seven apiece.

The Citadins had five players in double digits, led by Yiacovakis Hilaire's 16 points, while McFadden Jean (14), Ousmane Diawara (13), Ahmed Sekou Bah (13) and Guerdy Jean (10 points, 12 rebounds) powered a balanced UQAM attack. 

UQAM shot 44.4 per cent from the floor — including 10-for-30 from beyond the arc — and went 16-for-24 from the line. McGill hit 41.3 per cent of its shots but struggled from long distance at 4-for-25. McGill shot 10-for-15 from the charity stripe. UQAM held a 42–37 rebound margin and forced 22 turnovers, converting those into 34 points.

McGill now turns its attention to exams and the holiday break before returning to action in the new year with a home-and-home series against division-leading Bishop's (8–1). The teams meet Jan. 8 in an 8 p.m. start at Love Competition Hall, followed by a Jan. 10 rematch at Mitchell Gym in Lennoxville. UQAM, which sits third with a 5-3 record, plays at Ottawa (5-5) on Jan. 3 in a game that will count in the RSEQ standings.

MONTRÉAL — Saransh Padhy a réalisé un double-double, mais cela n'a pas suffi pour empêcher McGill de s'incliner 82-66 face à l'UQAM dans le cadre du championnat universitaire masculin de basket-ball RSEQ, samedi, au Centre sportif UQAM.

Les Citadins ont amélioré leur fiche à 5-3, tandis que les Redbirds ont glissé à 1-7 dans leur dernier match de saison régulière avant la pause des examens d'automne.

Après avoir limité l'UQAM à seulement 28 points pendant toute la première mi-temps, McGill menait 31-28 à la pause. Mais le match a basculé après la pause et les Citadins ont explosé avec 29 points au troisième quart-temps et 25 autres dans le dernier quart-temps.

Padhy a mené les Redbirds avec 27 points et 12 rebonds, grâce à un tir efficace de 11 sur 13. Il s'agit du meilleur total en un seul match pour un membre des Redbirds depuis que Joshua Soifer a marqué 29 points contre l'UQAM le 2 novembre 2023.

Son coéquipier Luis Micourt a ajouté 11 points et 8 rebonds, tandis qu'Isaac Moore en a ajouté 10. Sean Duff et Noah Sincere ont marqué 7 points chacun.

Les Citadins comptaient cinq joueurs avec un score à deux chiffres, menés par Yiacovakis Hilaire avec 16 points, tandis que McFadden Jean (14), Ousmane Diawara (13), Ahmed Sekou Bah (13) et Guerdy Jean (10 points, 12 rebonds) ont alimenté une attaque équilibrée de l'UQAM.

L'UQAM a tiré à 44,4 % depuis le terrain, dont 10 sur 30 à trois points, et a réussi 16 tirs sur 24 depuis la ligne. McGill a réussi 41,3 % de ses tirs, mais a peiné à longue distance avec 4 tirs sur 25. McGill a réussi 10 tirs sur 15 depuis la ligne des lancers francs. L'UQAM a pris l'avantage au rebond (42-37) et a provoqué 22 pertes de balle, qu'elle a converties en 34 points.

McGill se concentre désormais sur les examens et les vacances avant de reprendre la compétition au début de l'année prochaine avec une série de matchs à domicile et à l'extérieur contre Bishop's (8-1), leader de la division. Les équipes s'affronteront le 8 janvier à 20 h au Love Competition Hall, puis le 10 janvier au Mitchell Gym de Lennoxville. L'UQAM, qui occupe la troisième place avec un bilan de 5-3, jouera à Ottawa (5-5) le 3 janvier dans un match qui comptera pour le classement du RSEQ.
