MONTREAL -- McGill Athletics has officially launched a new logo for its varsity teams, drawing inspiration from a storied visual tradition that dates back over a century. The refreshed design pays homage to the branding first worn by McGill student-athletes in 1898, creating a powerful link between past and present.

The updated logo incorporates elements reminiscent of classic McGill team crests, with a modernized look. Drawing from archival research and stakeholder feedback, the result is a bold, recognizable mark that echoes the spirit, resilience, and academic excellence long associated with the McGill varsity sports program. It will appear across all varsity uniforms, merchandise, and promotional materials beginning in fall 2025.

"We're proud to reintroduce a symbol that connects today's Redbirds and Martlets to more than a century of McGill Athletics history," said Geoffrey Phillips, executive director of McGill Athletics and Recreation. "This isn't just a logo — it's a celebration of identity, community and tradition."

The rebranding marks a new chapter for McGill's athletic program, inviting alumni, students, and supporters alike to rally behind a shared visual identity rooted in excellence and legacy.

MONTRÉAL – Le département sportif de l'Université McGill a officiellement dévoilé le nouveau logo de ses équipes universitaires, inspiré d'une tradition visuelle riche d'un centenaire. Le nouveau design rend hommage à l'emblème porté pour la première fois par les étudiants-athlètes de McGill en 1898, créant ainsi un lien puissant entre le passé et le présent.

Le logo actualisé intègre des éléments rappelant les écussons classiques des équipes de McGill, avec un look modernisé. Fruit de recherches archivistiques et des commentaires des parties prenantes, le résultat est un symbole audacieux et reconnaissable qui fait écho à l'esprit, à la résilience et à l'excellence académique associés depuis longtemps au programme sportif universitaire de McGill. Il apparaîtra sur tous les uniformes, produits dérivés et supports promotionnels des équipes universitaires à partir de l'automne 2025.
