MONTREAL – Dimitri Morand has been appointed as the new offensive coordinator for the McGill University football team. The full-time appointment was announced Wednesday by head coach Alex Surprenant.
 
Originally from Aylmer, Que., Morand had been coaching the past three seasons with Collège Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu of the RSEQ's Div. 1 CEGEP league. He spent the last two years as the team's offensive coordinator and helped turn around a program that finished last with 1-8 record in 2022 to a 5-3 fourth-place record the following season.
 
"This is kind of a full circle moment for me, hiring one of my former players," said Surprenant, who has just completed a breakthrough recruiting campaign at McGill with a school record 57 incoming freshman as he prepares to embark upon his second season as bench boss of the Redbirds. "We won back-to-back Bol d'Or collegiate championships together in Saint-Jean (2014 & 2015) and we plan to win more together at McGill."
 
Morand also served as the quarterbacks coach with the Football Quebec Under-18 program in 2023 and will be coaching the provincial U-16 squad this summer.
 
During his playing days, Morand was a six-foot, 188-pound quarterback at Collège Saint-Jean from 2014 to 2016, earning offensive player of the year honours in 2015 and the League MVP award in his final campaign. During his second season there, he threw a league-leading 43 TD passes in nine games and generated an offence that averaged 57.7 points per game.
 
Morand made the jump to the university ranks with the Montreal Carabins, where he earned a bachelor's degree in communication sciences (BA '21). Over his four seasons with the Carabins (2017–2021), he played in 31 regular season contests,  threw for 13 TDs and 3,581 yards, to go along with seven rushing TDs and a Dunsmore Cup league title (2019).
 
Morand replaces Cullen Tennant, who recently stepped down from the position to pursue other opportunities in the business world.

MONTRÉAL – Dimitri Morand a été nommé à titre de nouveau coordonnateur offensif de l'équipe de football de l'Université McGill. Cette nomination a été annoncée mercredi par l'entraîneur-chef Alex Surprenant.
 
Originaire d'Aylmer, au Québec, Morand a passé les trois dernières saisons au Cégep de Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, dans la division 1 du RSEQ. Il a occupé le poste de coordonnateur offensif de l'équipe au cours des deux dernières années et a contribué à redresser une équipe qui avait terminé dernière avec un bilan de 1-8 en 2022 pour atteindre la quatrième place avec un bilan de 5-3 la saison suivante.
 
« C'est un peu comme si la boucle était bouclée pour moi, en embauchant l'un de mes anciens joueurs », a déclaré Surprenant, qui vient de terminer une campagne de recrutement exceptionnelle avec une cohorte record de 57 nouveaux étudiants de première année, alors qu'il se prépare à entamer sa deuxième saison à la tête des Redbirds.
 
« Nous avons remporté deux championnats Bol d'Or consécutifs à Saint-Jean (2014 et 2015) et nous comptons bien en remporter d'autres ensemble à McGill. »
 
Morand a également été entraîneur des quarts-arrière du programme d'excellence de Football Québec U18 en 2023 et entraînera l'équipe du Québec U16 cet été.
 
Pendant son illustre carrière d'étudiant-athlète, Morand a occupé le poste de quart-arrière partant au Collège de Saint-Jean de 2014 à 2016. Il a été nommé joueur offensif de l'année en 2015 et a remporté le titre de joueur le plus utile du RSEQ lors de sa dernière saison collégiale. Au cours de sa deuxième saison, il avait complété 43 passes de touché en neuf matchs, meneur dans la ligue, et a guidé une attaque qui a marqué en moyenne 57,7 points par match.
 
Morand a ensuite fait le saut au niveau universitaire avec les Carabins de l'Université de Montréal, où il a obtenu un baccalauréat en sciences des communications (BA '21). Au cours de ses quatre saisons avec les Carabins (2017-2021), il a disputé 31 matchs de saison régulière, lancé pour 3 581 verges et 13 touchés, en plus de sept touchés au sol et d'un titre de champion de la Coupe Dunsmore (2019). 
 
Morand remplace Cullen Tennant, qui a récemment quitté son poste pour se consacrer à d'autres projets dans le monde des affaires.
