McGill's Lefebvre earns all-star status in college hoops, while Sincere voted conference rookie of the year

MONTREAL – Georges Lefebvre and Noah Sincere of the McGill University Redbirds are among the men's basketball laureates for 2024-25 were announced by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec. In voting conducted by the league's five head coaches, Lefebvre earned a berth on the conference's second all-star team and Sincere merited all-rookie status and was voted rookie of the year.

Lefebvre, a 6-foot-8, 214-pound power forward from Montreal, was McGill's leading scorer and rebounder. Despite being double-teamed most of the time, he finished ninth among Quebec league scoring leaders and was fifth in rebounding, averaging 11.5 points and 7.0 rebounds over 16 regular season games. He also ranked second among RSEQ leaders in court time (31.2 minutes per game), led the league in blocked shots (24), was eighth in three-point shooting (35.2 %), 11th in free-throw shooting (63.8 %) and 15th in assists (1.6 per game). Lefebvre posted a season-high of 20 points in a game against UQAM and registered one double-double (16 pts, 10 rbs). He also registered three double-digit games in rebounding. The 23-year-old Arts student was in his first year at McGill but fifth year of collegiate eligibility after previous stints at Simon Fraser University and Vermont.

Sincere, who turned 21 in late February, is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound point-guard from Laval, Que. Despite his youth, he was extremely cool under pressure, leading the league in free-throw shooting with a stellar success rate of 82.5 per cent, making 33 of 40 attempts from the charity stripe. He tallied 41 assist to rank 10th among league leaders in assists per game (2.6). One of the team's top ball-handlers, he ranked eighth among RSEQ leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio (1:1). Sincere played in all 16 games, earned four starts, averaged 19. 6 minutes per game and was credited with 14 steals. He averaged 6.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per outing, shooting 30.1 per cent from the field (31/103) and 27.3 per cent from three-point range (12/44).

An Arts freshman, Sincere is majoring in education in global contexts. Recruited out of College Montmorency in the Quebec CEGEP league, he is the just the sixth McGill player to earn the Quebec conference's rookie-of-the-year award, joining a group that includes Haris Elezovic (2022), Kendrick Jolin (2017), Dele Ogundokun (2014), Olivier Bouchard (2010) and Yannick Chouinard (2006). Sincere now becomes a nominee for the U SPORTS national honour, the Dr. Peter Mullins Trophy.
