U SPORTS SWIM CHAMPIONSHIP (Day 2): McGill's Sarty bronzed at Nationals

VICTORIA, BC – Isabel Sarty of the McGill University women's swim team won a bronze medal on Day 2 of the U SPORTS national championships, Friday.
 
Sarty, a 23-year-old master's student in neuroscience, finished third in the 50-metre butterfly, posting a time of 27.92 seconds in the long-course pool. The RSEQ swimmer of the year was just edged out at the final touch by UBC's Aloise Allen (27.42) and Manitoba's Dora Modcrin (27.49).

Sarty also finished seventh in the 200 free (2:06.33) and swam the anchor leg of the 4x200 free relay that finished fourth overall. Joining her on that foursome was Naomie Lo of Toronto, Elizabeth Ling of Calgary and Daphne Danyluk of Rivière-des-Prairies, Que.

Other McGill swimmers to reach the "A" finals included Ling, who was fifth in the 50m back, Montrealer Cailin McMurray (6th, 50m fly) and Emilia Mastromatteo (7th, 50 back) of Kenora, Ont.

With one day remaining in the meet, Toronto continues to lead all 22 schools in the women's division with 878 points. Rounding out the Top 5 is UBC (860.5), Calgary (568) and McGill (565).
 
In other highlight's, UBC's Emma O'Cronin followed up her night one 400m free gold medal performance with gold in the 200m free, registering a time of 1:59.03, to capture the event.

The final day of the 2023 U SPORTS Swimming Championships takes place on Saturday (Feb. 25), with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. Pacific.
