McGill has never played Oregon, a west-coast team that hails from Eugene, Ore. The Ducks began play the same year as McGill, in 1902-03, and have made 17 trips to the NCAA Tournament, winning once (1939).

In recent years, Oregon has been recruiting  basketball players from Canada, including  Dillon Brooks, Chris Boucher and Chris Duarte, whom each suited up for the Ducks before making it to the NBA.

Their 2022-23 roster features three Canadians, with Ethan Butler of Toronto in addition to Montrealers Keeshawn Barthelemy and Quincy Guerrier.

Oregon posted a 20-15 overall record last year under the direction of head coach Dana Altman, with an 11-9 mark in the Pac-12 conference. In the Pac-12 Tournament, Oregon won its opener but fell 80-69 to Colorado in the quarter-final round at Las Vegas. The Ducks missed the NCAA tourney but advanced to the National Invitational Tournament, where they defeated Utah State 83-72 in the opener at Logan, Utah, before suffering a 75-60 setback to Texas A & M in the second round at College Station, Texas.

Oregon will play five games in Canada, including Ottawa (Aug. 22), Carleton (Aug. 23), McMaster (Aug. 25) and Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson) on Aug. 26.

This will be the third preseason contest for the McGill Redbirds, who began their 121st year last week with a pair of preseason losses to Florida State (90-74) and Vermont (70-61)

The Redbirds are coming off a stellar 15-5 overall record last season, including a perfect 12-0 mark in the RSEQ conference. It marked McGill's first undefeated campaign in men's hoops since 1933-34, when posting a 6-0 record to capture the Wilson Cup as champions of the intercollegiate league.
