Alouettes invite guest coaches from McGill and other Quebec university football programs to training camp

MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes have announced that the team will host two coaches from every university football program in Quebec, as well as from the Montreal Blitz, a Lachine-based team in the Women's Football Alliance, during their upcoming training camp in Trois-Rivières, from May 15 to June 2.

"We sit atop the football pyramid in Quebec, and we want to take concrete steps in that direction, which is why we are inviting all these coaches to our training camp," said Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia. "We want to help develop coaches from here. They will be able to take part in a professional camp, as they will actively (participate) in the team's practices and meetings. They will have unlimited access to our coaching staff. We want to build lasting relationships with our coaches from here."

Throughout camp, slated to take place at the Stade Diablos in Trois-Rivières, the guest coaches will have the opportunity to watch the Alouettes coaching staff in action from up close, all while exchanging ideas with them.

"It's a great initiative that the Alouettes have implemented," said Ronald Hilaire, who will be entering his eighth season in 2022 as bench boss at McGill University. "As coaches, one of the things that we constantly want to do is improve, grow, learn new tools and have opportunities for professional development. Especially within our backyard, with a CFL team in our city, this is something extraordinary that our coaches can benefit from. To have the Alouettes as a nearby resource to draw from and be closer to that organization, is a win-win opportunity for both sides. So I'm looking forward to developing this initiative for our coaching staff and making it even better for years to come."

Other head coaches on the conference call were Chérif Nicolas (Bishop's), Brad Collinson (Concordia), Glen Constantin (Laval), Marco Iadeluca (Montréal) and Mathieu Lecompte (Sherbrooke), as well as Saadia Ashraf, a McGill physical education grad (1999) who coaches the Montreal Blitz.

They will each be responsible for selecting the two coaches from their staff to attend the Alouettes camp. The names will be announced at a later date.

Prior to joining the Alouettes, Macioca previously served a long stint as bench boss in the university ranks, including a Vanier Cup national championship title won at McGill's Percival Molson Stadium in 2014. The current Alouettes coaching staff is also composed of three former Quebec university players and coaches: André Bolduc, Luc Brodeur-Jourdain and Byron Archambault.
