EDMONTON --
Maxime Rouyer, a McGill university graduate from France, has signed a two-year contract extension with the Edmonton Elks football club.
A 27-year-old native of Troyes, he has played two seasons with Canadian Football League club since being selected fourth overall in the 2019 European Draft. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker appeared in 17 CFL games in 2019, but was limited to just one game this past season due to a toe injury that kept him out of the lineup. His lone appearance came Week 10 when he suited up against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Rouyer, who first played football at the age of 16, was recruited out of Collège de Jonquière in 2015 and graduated from McGill with a degree in physical education. In 21 regular season contests over four seasons at McGill, he registered 79 total tackles including 59 solos and 3.5 quarterback sacks, along with a pair of knockdowns.
