MONTREAL –
Jade Downie-Landry of St. Jean sur Richelieu, Que., and
Zachary Mayne of Thornbury, Ont., are the McGill University athletes of the week, for the period ending Mar. 17, 2019.
Downie-Landry, a 5-foot-8 forward with the Martlets hockey team, was named Tournament MVP and shared the tourney scoring lead with five points as McGill won silver with a 2-1 record at the U SPORTS national championship in Charlottetown over the weekend. The 23-year-old psychology junior was named Game MVP in a 10-2 quarter-final win over the AUS champion St. Thomas Tommies on Friday, scoring once and adding four assists.
Mayne, a 19-year-old finance sophomore won the first medal of the season for the men's alpine ski team, reaching the podium at the RSEQ championship meet at Mont Stoneham last Friday. The 5-foot-7, 180-pound product of the National Ski Academy won bronze in a slalom race.
