BROMONT, QUE. --
Abigail Thomas of Ottawa, led the McGill University alpine ski team with a bronze medal performance at Ski Bromont over the weekend.
The two-day competition was held in tough, icy conditions in a venue known for having a low proportion of race finishers.
Thomas, a 5-foot-8 kinesiology sophomore, finished third in Saturday's giant slalom and was fifth in Sunday's race. Other Martlets in Saturday's Top 10 included
Sarah Mains (4th),
Camille Vibert (7th) and
Haley McKercher (9th). In Sunday's competition, McKercher was sixth and Vibert seventh.
While the women were running a giant slalom course, the men competed in a slalom.
The top Redmen scorer was
Cameron Dymond, a physical education sophomore from Oakville, Ont., who finished fifth on both days.
The only others to post a Top 10 finish was sophomore
Zachary Mayne of Thornbury, Ont., who was seventh on Saturday and
Alexander Valentin, a freshman from Whistler, B.C., who place sixth on Sunday.
Next on the schedule is the RSEQ championship meet in Stoneham, Que., March 15-16.
