MONTREAL –
Cory Watson, a veteran receiver of 10 CFL seasons, has hung up his cleats to join the coaching staff of the McGill University football program. The announcement was made Monday by
Ronald Hilaire, who will be entering his seventh season in 2020 as head coach and defensive coordinator at McGill.
Watson, 35, who will serve as an offensive assistant to receivers coach
Yannick Langelier-Vanasse, won a Grey Cup ring with Edmonton in 2015. Born in Jamaica, where he was a cricket and soccer player, Watson is one of nine siblings and moved at age nine to the Montreal suburb of Dollard des Ormeaux, Que.
He was selected by Winnipeg in the second round (9th overall) of the 2010 draft. Watson spent five seasons with the Blue Bombers, followed by stints with Edmonton (2015-2017), the B.C. Lions (2018) and Saskatchewan (2019). In 148 regular-season CFL games Watson collected 374 receptions for 4,138 yards, 11.1 yards per catch and 17 touchdowns.
Prior to joining the pro ranks, the 6-foot-3, 220-pound inside receiver played with the North Shore Lions (bantam) and the North Shore Mustangs (midget). He went on to become a three-time CEGEP all-star with Vanier College, followed by RSEQ all-conference honours and all-Canadian second-team status with the Concordia Stingers in 2009.
The appointment of Watson completes Hilaire's coaching staff for 2020, which also includes the aforementioned
