MONTREAL -- Four different players registered tries and Valerie Langevin converted each as the visiting Université de Montréal Carabins defeated McGill 28-17 in the RSEQ women's rugby opener at Percival Molson Stadium, Sunday.

The Carabins, who finished fourth in the eight-team Quebec conference last year with a 4-3 record, led 21-3 at halftime but McGill rallied in the second half, outscoring UdeM 14-8.

Dana Silerova, a 5-foot-7 geology sophomore from Terrasse-Vaudreuil, Que., accounted for 12 of McGill's 17 points, with one try, a pair of conversions and a penalty kick. Rounding out the scoring for the Martlets was senior Emmanuelle Tassy-Bunyan, a native of Outremont, Que., who tallied a try in the final minute of the game.

The Carabins try scorers were Valerie Courtemanche-Martel, Josianne Markoff, Ngalula Fuamba and Sabrina Nevue.

Sophomore Dori Yeats was assessed a yellow warning card in the 84th minute. The former Olympic wrestler for Canada was named as McGill's player of the game, selected by Carabins head coach Michel François, while UdeM's Liddia Kol Touch picked by McGill bench boss Magali Harvey.

UdeM (1-0) will host Carleton (1-0) on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m., while McGill (0-1) travels to Laval (0-0) on Sept. 8 for a 1 p.m. matinee.
