MONTREAL -- Three members of the McGill Redmen have been voted as all-stars in an announcement made by the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association, Monday.
Tanner Baldin of Brantford, Ont., was picked along with
Brendan Mullen of Toronto and
Gardie Herr of Princeton, N.J.
Baldin, one of the team's four captains, is a 5-foot-10, 160 pound defenceman who was tasked with neutralizing the opponent's top snipers in each game and forced a team-leading 24 turnovers in 10 outings. The 21-year-old civil engineering junior also scored once and added a pair of assists.
Mullen, also a co-captain, is a 6-foot-4, 180-pound long-stick midfielder. The 21-year-old economics senior was credited with one assist and led the team by pouncing on 34 ground balls in 10 games.
Herr, a six-foot, 185-pound midfielder, was named to the "dream team" as a faceoff specialist. He won 91 of 144 draws for a stellar success rate of 62.2 per cent. The 20-year-old arts sophomore also tallied twice and added one helper.
The league's major individual awards will be announced following the Baggataway Cup national championship tournament, which will be held at the University of Toronto, Nov. 9-11.
