MONTREAL -- The Montreal Alouettes have announced the signing of free-agent offensive lineman Timothy Mitchell, a graduate of the McGill University football program. The 6-foot-5, 290-pound native of St. Hubert, Que., is the sixth product from McGill -- and the third offensive lineman -- currently listed on a pro football team roster.
That list also includes OL Laurent Duvernay Tardif of the National Football League's Kansas City Chiefs, OL Qadr Spooner linebacker Jesse Briggs of the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers, wide receiver Shaq Johnson of the BC Lions and safety Mike Edem of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Mitchell, who signed one day before his 26th birthday, previously had a tryout with the CFL's Ottawa Redblacks in 2015. He dressed in 12 games for the McGill Redmen in the 2013 and 2014 seasons before earning a certificate in human resources management.
When Mitchell officially suits up for the Alouettes, he will become the 59th McGill player to make a CFL or NFL team, including NFL products J.P. Darche, Randy Chevrier and the aforementioned Duvernay-Tardif.
