MONTREAL -- One McGill University men's basketball graduate and four members of the current Redmen team and will be feted during the "Beach Night" doubleheader at Love Competition Hall, located inside the Sir Arthur Currie gymnasium, Thursday (Feb. 9), at 475 Pine Avenue West.
The perfect cure for the winter blues, this extravaganza offers a special beach-themed menu with ice cream and popsicles, a sandpit and deck-chairs, in addition to a relaxation zone with free massages from the McGill Sport Medicine Clinic. Fans are encouraged to show up in beach attire for the event, which kicks off at 6 p.m. with the third-place Martlets (6-6) taking on UQAM (7-5) in a key battle for second place, followed at 8 p.m. by the division-leading Redmen (9-3) going up against third-place UQAM (7-5). The McGill men, who find themselves in the U SPORTS national Top 10 for the 11th consecutive week, are currently ranked eighth in the nation.

At halftime of the men's game, referee
Mike Homsy, will be honoured by McGill Athletics & Recreation. A former McGill basketball player, who graduated with an education degree in 1981, Homsy will be retiring in a few weeks after 31 years as an official in the Quebec conference.

The quartet captured gold for Canada last fall at a 3-on-3 basketball FISU World University League tournament, held in Xiamen, China, Oct. 21 to 23. They defeated Université de Bordeaux of France 17-9 in the championship game, after recording a perfect 6-0 record, with wins over Argentina's Universidad Nacional de La Matanza, as well as China's Huaqiao University (host) and Tsinghua University, the University of Macau (quarterfinals) and Croatia's University of Split (semifinals).
It was the second straight title by a Quebec-based school in the men's tournament, after UQAM stood atop the podium in the inaugural event the previous year.
The four Redmen advanced to the FIBA 3-on-3 All-Stars tournament in Doha, Qatar on Nov. 18, where McGill placed eighth overall after losing a sudden-death quarter-final 22-11 to Ljubljana of Slovakia. A prize of $20,000 (USD) was presented to the eventual champions, Novi Sad Al Wahda, from the United Arab Emirates.
