MONTREAL --
Laurence Pontbriand-Malo scored 10 points as the Montreal Carabins defeated McGill 21-3 to close the RSEQ women's rugby season at Terrain Vincent-d'Indy, Saturday.
Pontbriand-Malo's points came on a pair of tries in the fourth and 66th minutes. Teammate
Josianne Markoff also scored a try, in the 34th minute.
Anaïs Holly successfully converted all three for six points.
Dana Silerova, a 5-foot-7 fullback from Terrasse Vaudreuil, Que., scored on a penalty kick late in the first half to put the Martlets on the scoresheet.
Ngalula Fuamba was named Game MVP for U de M while
Dori Yeats of Montreal took the honours for McGill.
The Martlets finished seventh in the eight-team RSEQ conference at 2-5 will not advance to the postseason for the third straight year. Montreal (4-3) finished in a three-way tie for third, fourth and fifth with Concordia and Carleton. After a slide-rule was pulled out to determine the final standings, the Stingers ended up third and will meet second-place Laval (5-2) in one semifinal, while the Carabins were slotted fourth and will confront division-leading Ottawa (7-0).
