ST. ANNE DE BELLEVUE, QUE. --
Elisabeth Langevin scored 14 points as the Sherbrooke Vert & Or surprised McGill 24-15 in the RSEQ women's rugby opener at McEwen Field, Sunday.
The result marked Sherbrooke's first-ever victory over McGill since joining the Quebec conference in 1997, snapping a 24-game losing streak to the Martlets.
The Vert & Or led 14-10 at halftime on tries by Langevin,
Marjolaine Simard and
Elisabeth Chagnon.
Rebecca Hunziker, a sophomore from St. Lazare, Que., tallied a pair of first-half tries for the Martlets.
Langevin added another try and converted it in the second half to give the visitors a commanding 24-10 advantage.
McGill freshman
Victoria Kwok of Ile-Bizard, Que., rounded out the scoring with a last-second try.
Sherbrooke (1-0) plays at Concordia (0-0) on Sept. 8 while the Martlets (0-1) travel to the nation's capital on Sept. 11 to play Carleton (1-0).
