QUEBEC CITY --
Anne-Charlotte Beaulieu scored 13 points to lead Laval in a dominant 58-0 performance over the Martlets in RSEQ women's rugby at Stade TELUS-UL on Friday. The game started 45 minutes late as the Martlets were stuck in traffic and had to rush off the team bus after making the 245-kilometre trip in more than three hours.
With one game remaining on the schedule, the loss eliminated McGill from playoff contention for the second straight year.
Beaulieu opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the seventh minute and converted two first-half tries, then added three more successful conversions in the second half.
Laval led 27-0 at the intermission, on the strength of two tries from team captain
Fabiola Forteza and one each from
Marie Thibault and
Véronique Gagné, in addition to Beaulieu's tally.
Justine Pelletier and
Frédérique Ferland each added a pair of second-half tries, and
Maude Laliberté rounded out the scoring with another try.
Both teams close the regular season on Oct. 16. The second-place Rouge et Or (5-1) will travel to sixth-place Sherbrooke (2-4) while seventh-place McGill (1-5) takes on third-place Concordia (4-2).
