GUELPH, Ont -- Senior
Alex Kiss-Rusk dished out a dominating "double-double" as the McGill University women's basketball team cruised to a 71-51 road victory over Guelph in preseason play at the Guelph Centre, Saturday.
It was the fourth conquest in as many outings this fall for the Martlets, including a pair of decisions over NCAA teams in late August. McGill led 19-14 after the opening quarter and 38-20 at the half before call off the dogs and making liberal substitutions. Guelph won the third quarter 19-17, narrowing the gap to 55-39 after three.
Kiss-Rusk, a 6-foot-4 centre from Beaconsfield, Que., scored a game-high 29 points -- two shy of a personal best -- and ripped down 14 rebounds with a pair of blocked shots in just 27 minutes of court-time. She shot 10-for-15 from the floor and went 9-for-13 at the foul-line.

The Martlets led most of the key statistical categories, with a 37-25 edge in rebounds, a 13-12 margin in blocked shots and a 26-15 advantage in turnovers. McGill shot 40.3 per cent from the floor (25/62), went 2-for-16 from three-point range and drained 19 of 30 free throws, compared to Guelph, which shot 35.8, 29.4 and 38.1, respectively.
The Martlets (4-0) will conclude their three-game swing of Southern Ontario on Sunday at 1 p.m. with a game against Ryerson at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, located inside the old Maple Leaf Gardens. It will be the first confrontation between these teams since Ryerson eliminated McGill in the CIS national semifinal a year ago. The Rams are 1-0 after an 85-52 win over Niagara College
