STE-FOY, Que. — Rookie guard Tyanne Matosas-Adderley converted a left-handed layup at the buzzer to give seventh-seeded Carleton a 64-62 come-from-behind victory over No. 6 McGill in a consolation semifinal Friday at the Sun Life U SPORTS Final 8 women's basketball championship at Laval's Amphithéâtre Desjardins.
After Ravens forward Jacqueline Urban nailed a pair of free throws to tie the game at 62-62 with 12 seconds remaining, McGill had possession and a chance to set up a potential game-winning shot. Lily Rose Chatila drove to the basket but was blocked by Urban. Carleton's Catherine Oliver corralled the rebound with six seconds left and quickly transitioned to a three-on-one fast break, moving the ball ahead to Kyana-Jade Poulin, who found Matosas-Adderley streaking to the net. The Toronto native sealed the dramatic win to end a tightly contested affair that featured seven lead changes and five ties.
Carleton improved to 27-10 overall and advanced to Sunday's consolation final against top-seeded TMU, which had been upset by Laval in the quarter-final round but rebounded with a win over UBC. The Ravens evened their all-time series with McGill at 19-19.
For the RSEQ champion Martlets, the loss closed the book on a 17-11 campaign that included an 11-5 regular season and the program's first conference title since 2018.
Emilia Diaz-Ruiz, named McGill's player of the game for the second straight outing, delivered 21 points and six rebounds while going 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. The six-foot sophomore forward from Hamilton, Ont., repeatedly answered Carleton runs and gave the Martlets a 62-60 lead with two free throws and only 28 seconds remaining.
Senior Emma-Jane Scotten of Ottawa, added 12 points, including three treys, one of which had tied the score at 60-60 with 84 seconds left. Teammate Daniella Mbengo of Montreal, chipped in nine. Erica Simeone, a medical school sophomore from Ile-Bizard, Que., contributed six points and seven rebounds. Chatila, the team's leading scorer during the regular season, was often double-teamed and held to just five points but contributed six assists and three steals in 34 minutes.
The Martlets trailed 22-16 after the opening frame but responded with improved ball movement and perimeter shooting to seize momentum before the break. McGill led 35-31 at halftime after outscoring Carleton 19-9 in the second quarter. The Ravens edged ahead 46-44 after three quarters and erased a seven-point deficit with 6:42 remaining to outlast McGill 18-16 in a wild final stanza.
Carleton shot 36.9 per cent from the field (24-for-65) and connected on 10-of-24 three-point attempts, while holding a 41-30 advantage on the boards. McGill shot 34.4 per cent (21-for-61) and 6-of-17 from beyond the arc.
McGill's free-throw shooting, the team's bread-and-butter routine during the regular season (73.1 per cent), went just 14-for-23 in this contest, while Carleton was 6-for-7 from the stripe.
The Martlets forced 17 turnovers and turned them into 15 points but were outrebounded on the defensive glass in key fourth-quarter possessions.
The loss marked an emotional conclusion for graduating seniors Scotten, Kristy Awikeh (Aleppo, Syria) and Katie Rathwell (Regina), who helped guide McGill back to national prominence with its first RSEQ banner in eight years.
Though the Martlets' Bronze Baby pursuit ended short of the podium, their return to the national championship stage signaled a significant step forward for the program.

Après que l'ailière des Ravens Jacqueline Urban eut réussi deux lancers francs pour créer l'égalité 62-62 avec 12 secondes à jouer, McGill a obtenu la possession avec l'occasion de préparer un tir potentiellement victorieux. Lily-Rose Chatila a attaqué le panier, mais son tir a été bloqué par Urban. Les Ravens ont repris l'avantage 46-44 après trois quarts et ont effacé un retard de sept points avec 6:42 à jouer pour finalement l'emporter 18-16 lors d'un quatrième quart endiablé.
Carleton a affiché un pourcentage de 36,9 % au tir (24-en-65) et 10-en-24 derrière l'arc, tout en dominant les rebonds 41-30. McGill a conclu la rencontre avec un rendement de 34,4 % (21-en-61) et 6-en-17 à trois points.
Habituellement redoutables à la ligne des lancers francs (73,1 % en saison régulière), les Martlets ont été limitées à 14-en-23 (60,9 %) dans ce match, tandis que Carleton a réussi 6 de ses 7 tentatives.
McGill a provoqué 17 revirements et en a tiré 15 points, mais a cédé des rebonds défensifs importants au quatrième quart.
La défaite marque une conclusion émotive pour les finissantes Scotten, Kristy Awikeh (Alep, Syrie) et Katie Rathwell (Regina), qui ont contribué à ramener McGill au premier plan national avec un premier titre du RSEQ en huit ans.
Si la quête du Bronze Baby s'est arrêtée avant le podium, le retour des Martlets sur la scène nationale représente néanmoins une étape significative dans la progression du programme.
