Box Score
OTTAWA -- Vincent Dufort scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the McGill Redmen erased six-point halftime deficit to defeat UNB 91-84 at the Jack Donohue Tournament in the nation's capital, Friday.

McGill, which improved to 5-1 in preseason play against CIS teams, came out of the first quarter tied at 21-21 and found themselves trailing 49-43 at halftime. The Redmen rallied in the second half, however, outscoring UNB 22-14 in the third stanza and 26-21 in the final quarter.

Dufort was one of four McGill players to finish in double digits, along with Jenning Leung (17), Dele Ogundokun (16 pts, 9 rbs) and Francois Bourque (12).

McGill led 76-70 with five minutes to play, and UNB cut that to a three-point margin in a furious final minute of action. A big offensive rebound by Francois Bourque allowed the Redmen to hold on for the victory.

Leading the way in a losing cause for UNB was Javon Masters with 31 points and Mark Matheson with a "double-double", collecting 15 points and 11 rebounds.

In the earlier game, host Ottawa opened the tourney with a 91-79 win over the York Lions. The tournament continues Saturday with McGill taking on York at 6 p.m and the Gee-Gees meeting the Varsity Reds at 8 p.m. All games are webcast live on OUA.tv

NOTES: The tourney is named in honour of Jack Donohue (1931-2003), a former Ottawa resident and legendary New Yorker who coached NBA legend Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) in high school before serving for 17 years as the Canadian national men's team coach. Donohue was the longest serving head coach in amateur or professional sport in Canada and the most successful team sport coach at the amateur level. He was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1991, the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992, and in 2000, the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame and the Ontario Basketball Hall of Fame. He was also a member of New York City's Coach's Hall of Fame. He passed away in April 16, 2003 at the age of 71. Just days before, he won the 2003 Coach Mac Award, given by the Toronto Raptors to "an individual who has made a major contribution to the sport while upholding the principles of honesty, integrity, competitiveness, and love of the game."
