MONTREAL -- Michelle Blair, a physical education freshman from Franklin, Que., scored a pair of tries as the McGill women's rugby team skunked Carleton 35-0 at Percival Molson Stadium, Saturday.

The Martlets racked up six tries in the contest, including ones by freshman Sarah Wimmer of Kimberley, B.C., senior Bianca Della Porta of Dorval, Que., sophomore Alexandra Robb from North Hatley, Que., and Kacey Wilkins, a rookie from St. Lambert, Que.

Caroline Suchorski, a fifth-year senior from Kirkland, Que., rounded out the scoring with five points on a penalty kick and a conversion.

It was a bittersweet day for a young Martlets team -- one that features a roster composed of eight freshmen, six sophomores, eight juniors and 10 seniors -- which has been eliminated from post-season play.

With two games remaining on their schedule, McGill sits fifth in the combative eight-team RSEQ conference with a 2-3 record, two wins shy of Concordia, Laval and Montreal, each of whom own identical 4-1 records. Should the Martlets win both of their remaining games against Bishop's and first-place Ottawa, the best they could do would be to tie one of those three teams ahead of them. However, the league's first tie-breaker is head-to-head competition and McGill lost their only meeting against each of those teams.

McGill, which could lose as many as 10 seniors to graduation, will host Bishop's (0-5-0) in their final home game of the season, Thursday (Oct. 15) at McEwen Field on the Macdonald campus in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Que. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
